The Process Cont. Page 26
November 11, 2008 Day 1156
First off, being that it is Veteran's day I would like to start the day off saying Thank You! To everyone who has ever
served defending our great country. Whether you are a veteran of a war or served during more peaceful times your
sacrifice over those years are greatly appreciated.
Now back to the process.... Tuesday Julien and his men started laying the radiant tubing for the heating system.
Julien says we will have our floor poured tomorrow which is Thursday. Now this is the third date he has given us for
having our floor poured so we shall see if it actually happens this time. Yesterday I also received a phone call from
Brisk Doors saying that my garage doors are in. He went on to say that the doors need to be painted before he will
install them due to warranty restrictions. I told him I was aware of this and that they have not started framing yet so I
had plenty of time to accomplish this. Then he asked if I had access to a pick up? Not really I replied why? Well you
need to come get the doors so you can paint them. I then asked are you not installing them? Yes he replied well then
why are you not delivering them? Well I did not plan on making two trips to you place. I went on to tell him that this
was never discussed in the pricing and I really do not have a truck nor the time to drive to Gorham and pick them up.
Gorham is about a 90 minute drive each way. So after a long discussion he agreed to bring them up in a few weeks
when he is up in the area for another job. That was one of the weirdest conversations I have ever had with a
supplier. That would of been like the appliance people expecting us to pick up the fridge and stove etc. So it was
there when they went to install it for us. Hopefully the doors will arrive in the next few weeks and this will just turn out
to  be a funny story to remember and tell. However it does have the possibility of becoming a problem.
If you have been wondering about the progress of the cabinets I will have the final coat of paint on the second
cabinet today and Pattie has already put her dishes in them. So yes they will be done for Thanksgiving.
In this photo you can see the radiant heating system which will be used to heat
the breezeway, the straight tube in the center of the photo is the water line for
my spicket in the carriage house
November 18, 2008 Day 1163
Not much has happened in the last seven days. As mentioned prior I did finish painting the built ins long before
Thanksgiving. Julien has poured the floor and that is the last we have seen of him. For some reason I do not
expect to see him before Thanksgiving. I had hoped for some framing progress by Thanksgiving to show what the
addition will look like to family members but I guess it will have to wait until their Christmas visit. It is hard to believe
that another year has almost passed us by as we enter the Holiday season. As always I will recap all our
adventures and progress at the end of the year. I started to look at the list and it amazed me how much work was
still needed to be done on the house in November of last year, even though we were living there and how much we
have done over this present year. It never seems like you have done as much work in a year as you did and it
always seems we had more done than we did or we currently do. Either way I still have a very long list of things to
do on this house before I can say it is finished. However today I am feeling a bit lazy and do not expect to
accomplish much. So much for great advances in progress
December 8, 2008 Day 1183
Yes, waiting is what we have been doing. Waiting for Julien to come back and start the framing. I called him today
and he said he was hoping to be there next week, which means to me two weeks from now we might see him. This
puts us at the week of Christmas. A bit away from the September date which was promised.
At least someone is busy in this economy.
Speaking of busy I have been busy working on the banister and balusters. I figured this to be about a 60 hour
long project and I have about 31 or so hours left to go. It is very slow and monotonous work. Which is hard on my
brain plus all of the work requires me to be on my hands and knees, which is hard on my body. I am usually good
for about two hours of work at a time before I need to take a break from the job. This is quite the contrast from my
usual twelve hour days. I can only hope for the time when this is done and I get to move on to a new project. Of
course it is always harder to get work done around the holidays as well with all the commitments and requirements
on ones self. With that said my goal is to have it all done by mid January. Look for the pictures as I will be happy to
show it off, mostly because it will be done !
WAITING
December 21, 2008 Day 1196
With the arrival of winter we also had the arrival of Julien. We had wanted the Carriage House by winter to keep
the cars from getting covered in snow, perhaps later this winter or next year. Either way it is good to see the start
of Phase Two. On Friday I called the Garage Door person (David) to see about getting my doors delivered. I
received his voice mailbox which was too full to leave a message. I became a bit worried so I emailed him and also
had no answer. Now I am getting a bit concerned. Did he go out of business? Why is he not listening to his voice
mails? I looked up his home number but that was unlisted great! I am thinking now what? Well Saturday I tried his
number again and he answered the phone. He was very pleasant and set up a time for next Sunday to deliver
them to my house. Hopefully they show up and everything will be fine. I get a bit nervous at times when things do
not go as planned. We have been very lucky to have everyone deliver on their promises throughout this project
but you always hear horror stories and wonder when will it be your turn?
As for the banister I have it completely stained and now need to put a couple of coats of varnish on it I had hoped
to do that today but I have been very sick the last few days and I am not sure I can muster up the energy to work
on it today. I do not have a day off this week except for Christmas Day so most likely the work will begin after the
holiday. Hopefully I will be feeling better later today and be able to get some of it done.
